Tuesday dark, head bus Mark Turgeon and the Terps received exciting news as the NCAA notified the program that transfer frontwards Jairus Hamilton was granted a waiver and is immediately eligible for the 2020-21 season. Hamilton, a transfer from Boston Higher, has been practicing with the Terps since he arrived in Higher Park. However, he was waiting on official word from the NCAA regarding his status.

"I am so appreciative of the NCAA and Maryland for their efforts in granting me this opportunity," Hamilton said. "I am proud to be a Maryland Terrapin and am looking frontward to finishing my career with my teammates in Higher Park."

The six-foot-8-inch forrard averaged nine.5 points and 4.3 rebounds last season for the Eagles and figures to be a key part of Maryland's rotation this season. During his two seasons at Boston College, Hamilton appeared in 54 games, starting 28 of them.

Since the get-go of concluding season, Maryland'south frontcourt has changed drastically. The Terps lost Jalen Smith, Joshua Tomaic, Ricky Lindo Jr. as well as Makhi and Makhell Mitchell in the forepart court. As a result of those losses, Maryland had some serious question marks regarding front end court depth entering this season. Even so, Hamilton will assistance provide both depth and veteran experience to that grouping. He joins Donta Scott, Chol Marial, Galin Smith and Arnaud Revaz as one of only five terps above vi-foot-vii-inches.

"Aught made me happier than to evangelize this news to Jairus and our team at practice today," Turgeon said. "Jairus remained positive throughout the unabridged process and we are thrilled for him. I am extremely thankful to the NCAA for diligently working with our administration, compliance staff and Jairus' family to see this through."

The Maryland basketball flavor is scheduled to begin in late November, and Hamilton's ability to play immediately provides the Terps with a massive boost so late in the offseason.
